1973 Montego GT, 351 Cobra Jet, 4 speed, 3.50 rear. I recently acquired this car from a private collection. The car underwent a complete frame off, rotisserie, nut and bolt restoration several years ago. The exact date is not known. The car was restored with attention to detail and originality. The drivetrain is matching. I was able to confirm that the VIN stamped on the back of the block matches the Vehicle VIN. The paint is stunning, it is absolutely beautiful. No dry spots, no orange peel, no runs. I could only find a couple flaws in the paint due to aging. The bottom of the passenger door has a small bubble and crack in the paint, the passenger A piller has a small crack in the paint and the drivers door jam has some cracking in the paint over the seam sealer. The trunk, floor pans, and under the hood are all detailed and very nice. All the gauges are functional, the radio works, the rim blow horn works, the interior is in excellent condition. The bumpers are excellent, all the bright work has been restored and is in excellent condition.
I have the Marti report for this car. The two obvious variations are the addition of a period correct AM/FM radio and the addition of magnum 500 wheels. There were 4,464 Montego GTs built in 1973, 1,120 were Q code 351 Cobra Jet cars, 197 were 4-speed cars. Roughly about 4% were 4-speeds. When looking at references for pricing keep in mind that 96% of the cars were automatics therefore most of the pricing is based off automatic cars. This is a factory 4-speed car. You had to order the Q code option to get the 4-speed option.
The car starts right up, idles well, accelerates well, stops well, sounds amazing. There was a small exhaust leak that you may hear in the video. I have repaired the leak. Also, the hesitation the car was experiencing has resolved with the addition of better gas, and an idle and timing adjustment. Some of the pictures show pictures show Goodyear polyglas white letter tires. Those tires are not included in the sale. They are not safe to drive on the road. The car presently has like new radial tires.
Please look over the pictures and call with any questions. This is a very nice muscle car, its rare and in excellent condition. $25,000.00.
